Valsartan is a medication used primarily to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure, and to improve survival after a heart attack. It belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), which help relax blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.

Common side effects:

1. Dizziness or lightheadedness (especially when standing up)
2. Fatigue
3. Headache
4. Stomach pain
5. Diarrhea
6. Cough (less common than with ACE inhibitors)

Precautions

Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids unless your doctor advises otherwise; dehydration can increase the risk of low blood pressure.
